About the program structure

In our program, participants learn how to communicate effectively as leaders, build relationships, set priorities, and implement operational plans and continuous improvement. The techniques learnt in the programs can then be applied to a participant’s particular situation and workplace to improve engagement, increase productivity and the delivery of exceptional results.

To attain the BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management, participants must be deemed competent in 12 units of competency (five core, seven electives) over an eight-day program delivery, plus workplace tasks. The face-to-face sessions incorporate case studies, facilitated discussions and activities where the participant draws from their own experience.

The standard eight days of training is broken into 4 x 2 day blocks (9 hour days including breaks), plus a workplace task per block; however, the program is customised to your organisation’s needs and timeline. For example, for delivery, the program can be untaken in consecutive days, broken into half-day sessions or delivered with gaps in between to allow participants to practice skills learnt in each block back at their workplace, supported by an expert management facilitator.

Does your organisation need to focus on a specific area of Leadership and Management?
If your organisation wants to develop your leaders in one particular area of our Leadership and Management program, any of our two-day program blocks can be taken as stand-alone programs (accredited or non-accredited) customised to your specific needs.

We also offer this program online via our live and interactive, facilitator-led platform LDN-i enabling participants to join from their computer or device. Find out more about our LDN-i online delivery platform here

Course outline

Good communications have long been positioned as one of the fundamental skills of strong leaders.  Quality interpersonal skills have been proven to build trust and robust relationships that underpin the development of teams and increase the influence of an individual both internally and externally. This two-day program addresses these skills not as a ‘nice to have’ but rather as fundamental to the achievement of improved results through interactions with others. Increased productivity, delivery of efficiencies and reduced rework due to miscommunication are only some of the deliverables that this course seeks to achieve.

Participants on this program will work with others to build greater social awareness by being able to flex to the preferred communication styles of others more easily through deeper listening and more informed ‘reaction’ management. Whether with direct reports, clients or peers, participants will learn how to give effective feedback, constructively engage in conflict by listening to different perspectives and seeking to deal with others respectfully and confidently.

At the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Evaluate appropriate methods of communication, identify barriers to effective communication and engage others in ideas generation
  • Ask quality questions and listen more deeply for increased understanding of core issues and motivations
  • Develop trust and confidence in others through quality interactions that deliver the agreed outcomes
